I found her photos on the BC rescue page at
http://cbcr.org/available.htm
She's about halfway down.
Ohmigawd, she's **beautiful**!!! I have a thing for BC/sighthound lurchers,
and this dog is drop dead gorgeous. She's **blue**!!! With long white
socks and tuxedo markings, and just a few touches of tan on her
face and legs. If I could find a way to do it without having to push a
greyhound out the door to make it legal with the city ordinances, she'd be
living here....

Hi, all
I have been lurking for a long time now, mostly just learning from so many
of the posts!!
My family needs to move - landlord is selling house soon.
We have our Grey - JesseJames, a yellow-cur mutt - Cinnamon, and 4 cats. And
2 adults. Need at least 2+ bed/1+bath. Fenced yard and terrazzo/tile/vinyl
floors a plus. Meager to modest income.
We live in Sarasota County, Florida. We are interested in moving out into
the country away from city!! Willing to go !way out! :0) or to Manatee
County.
Does any one in the area know of anyone willing to rent to such a brood??
Newspaper listings and local real-estate offices have been no help :0(
Any leads gratefully appreciated!
Thanks from the fur crew and caretakers!!

Subject: chat: greyhounds & whippets
Well, we have two Greyhounds, one Whippet, and a grouchy Papillon.
The Greyhounds are gentle and calm, well, most of the time anyway. The
Whippet girl, Joey Levine, has the highest prey drive of all, and is
more people oriented. She likes to cuddle on the couch, and is a bit
jealous of the attention the Greyhounds are getting.
Our Greyhounds are very tuned in to being obedient and take commands
quite well. On the other hand, the Whippet would do NOTHING in obedience
school, except stand around looking at the bushes for what was
possibly lurking in the dark. Joey is VERY voice sensitive and if I even
raise my voice, she is off like a shot to her open crate. She does no
barking except to scare all the crows away from the wires over her back
yard. She jumps the smaller fence in the back yard, after cats, and has
been known to jump straight up in the air to land on the dining room
table. Our Greys would NEVER do such a thing. She is extremely lovable,
and beguiling though. She reminds me of a little child.
I had no idea about Whippets when we adopted Joey Levine. I thought she
would be akin to a Greyhound except 1/2 the size. NOT!

Subject: CHAT: The adventures of Heisman
Well, it's been almost 4 months now and Heisman is starting to *protect*
his family. He's a bumbly, goofy boy but oh so lovable and halariously
funny!
Last night - he growled ferociously and pawed at a teeny tiny ant because
it had invaded his territory........ now this........
This evening was still a slightly humid evening but ok to walk a short
distance for some exercise. We got to our turning point to come back
home and it started........ the fierce protector Heisman was called to
duty.
I had Heisman on lead. He likes to walk a bit out in front but not
pulling at the lead. Adrienne had Jackie on lead next to her.
Everything was fine until........
something moved in the shadows of the evening. Was it a cat? no.....
Was it a bunny? no........ it moved again and this time it crossed
paths with Heisman! Now folks - you have to picture this one in your
mind, ok? I weigh around 100 lbs. Heisman weighs a good 80+ lbs and
could pull me around like a rag doll if he wanted to. But instead of
pulling me, he stopped with ears alert. His eyes fixated and the stare
started. ok........ now what do I do? My eye sight is not all that
good to begin with and I had no idea what this moving thing was! I
couldn't see it! Then it happened........ Heisman frantically did a
complete turn in the air and then tried to pounce on the moving object
but missed! Luckily, I now know enough about greys on lead to react
quick. Down I went and grabbed Heisman's collar loop comanding him with
a firm no! Heisman is still fixated on this moving object. Finally, the
moving object slightly moved into the light of the streetlight that just
came on and I could see the outline of it's shadow. It looked like a
rock just as still as could be. I guess it decided that it had all it
could take from a fixated, drooling, whimpering grey and took a stance
against Heisman! The next thing I knew was I had an 80 lbs black alpha
grey almost on top of me because his nose got attacked by the moving
object! Heisman about jumped out of his skin! When I caught a good
glimpse of this *thing* I about died laughing! Heisman had encountered a
TOAD on the sidewalk! After attacking Heisman's nose it hopped off
toward the grassy area with Heisman looking at me with those goofy eyes
of his as if to say *Mom! What was THAT THING! I tried to protect you
but it got my nose!*
We finished our evening walk without any other *alien encounters* and
when we arrived back home, Heisman's nose was inspected (no sign of
injury - only insult to injury). I wiped off all traces of *TOAD GERMS*
so Heisman would feel more comfortable.
Hopefully - Heisman will sleep like a baby tonight......

Therese Skinner

Miss Charming, who joined our family on July 18 after travelling all the
way from TX, is demanding to be sent back to Texas so that she may be
re-adopted, and thus receive all of the goodies that the May seniors will
be getting. She's asked me to please find out why February wasn't
Adopt-A-Senior Month, and wants to know if she can qualify for a waiver.

Subject: SPECIAL,CHAT: A Greytdeer Story: Chips & Dip
I recently spent several months researching online (Rosnet, Greyfind,
Greyhound-data, etc.) to try to locate some of my Prancer's litter mates.
The litter of 8 dogs was split between two registered owners -- one who
races
dogs at several tracks in Florida and one who races dogs at Seabrook, NH --
so I had a pretty large area to search. I found no racing records on Rosnet
for Prancer and two other litter mates so I contacted Prancer's former owner
and he provided me the contact information for the trainer who had Prancer
and the other two dogs. There were racing records for the remaining dogs,
but all 5 raced at two or more tracks miles and miles from one another.
Because I found no recent racing record for any of the dogs, I began
contacting adoption groups to see if any of them had placed dogs from
Prancer's litter. I received several replies, but none with the news I was
hoping to hear. Then one day I just happened upon the website for GPA/GO
and
was perusing available hounds and there was one of Prancer's litter mates!
To make a long story short, please join me in welcoming Comet aka Katsu
Burning to into our lives and our home. I was worried that he might feel
left out because Vixen and Prancer are so close, but he just fit right in
like he had been here all his life. I guess some things are just destined
to
happen.
Comet's full story (with pictures) can now be found on our website for
anyone interested in seeing our new boy. I have to thank Lisa Nolet of
GPA/GO and Jen Huff of Hound Haven for working together so well and getting
my beautiful boy smoothly and safely from Florida to New Jersey.
Also, I just *have* to ask...anyone out there have:

area please contact Darrell at 206-982-4515. This is a pager number you
will

The dog did not have any identification on the collar (which appears to be a
Karen's Kollar), and no tattoos.
I am posting this because the people who have the dog are not able to post.
They can be reached at dreimer@qwest.net if you think you might know who

Subject: CHAT:The BEST shampoo
I've said it before, and I'm happy to say it again... the very BEST
shampoos
I've found are those made by Nature's Halo...the gals in Tilamook OR. They
smell citrus-y fresh, they rinse out easily, they repel fleas and the get
the
coat super shiney!! There's the Citrus Shampoo w Olive Oil or the Cedarwood
w Olive Oil with more skin conditioning agents....all natural.
I use their Citrus Spritz Bath like crazy...whenever I brush (which is
often). You can see details on the website at www.natureshalo.com

Subject: Chat: re: to chip or not to chip
Melody,
You obviously want to keep this dog if you're asking THIS LIST for opinions!
How many failed fosters (or is that successful fosters?) are on this list?
My tale of tails:
I adopted Miss Sunny Marie (really O's Sunshine Lady) who happens to have a
bit of an attitude problem following her neurotic streak. <G> I had
intended at some point to adopt a male to complete the set and then little
Miss Sierra Marie showed up in my flowerbed and looked pitiful and "ruined"
that plan.
To appease myself, I decided to foster a male, being unsure of how Sunny
would behave and not having room (in my mind) for 3 dogs. Home comes Max.
July of last year I brought home this big 12 year old black male thinking I
would provide him a home environment until he was adopted. I was NOT going
to get attached to him as he would be placed or possibly cross the bridge
because of his "advanced" age....I have no clue of his history or his
health....he was getting on in years. I refused to love him, he was cared
for, tended to, petted and things but I was NOT going to let him into my
heart. NO WAY, NO HOW.
To make a long story short, Max ate some foam and got sick. I discovered,
while going through all this, that the little sneak got IN the BACK door! I
must not've been looking or something, and he just WALTZED IN LIKE HE OWNED
THE PLACE! (he does) He got better and got mine. :) I find myself
cooing at him that he's "Nonna's baby now" and he bats those white eyelashes
at me and gets anything he wants. hahahaha
I can't imagine NOT loving him and think just what all I would have missed
had I been successful at not getting attached to him. What a love-muffin :)
But..............you already know all this because you asked US for an
opinion. <G>
Go for it.
Michelle

Subject: chat: going up the stairs
The other morning our Wayne, who is 8 years old couldn't seem to get his
feet
coordinated to go up the stairs. He seemed to be upset about it (and so was
I). We have three different levels in our house with five steps to each
level. He goes down just fine from level to the other. The last two nights
I
took him up at bedtime with the leash on. He kind of stumbled but he made
it. (very unsure of himself.) I really don't know what to do for him. He
seems to be afraid of something because he starts to shake. I don't mean
like
in a seizure though. Does anyone have any thoughts on this one? I would
really appreciate any suggestions . It's like he doesn't remember what foot
to put first. Again, going down, no problem. Hope someone can help and
thanking you in advance.

Subject: MEDICAL, CHAT: treatment for blood clots
Hi Everyone --
If anyone out there has experience with blood coagulation problems
(passing blood clots) in his or her greyhound, I would surely
appreciate if you could share the course of treatment you took and
the results (good or bad).
They are currently administering stepto-something or other to try to
break up the two existing clots. I need to make some decisions about
how to proceed when she comes home (she is in the doggy hospital right
now). I am considering giving her daily injections of heparin, but
there are some other drug options they will be going over with me too.
It would really be a big help if I heard some first-hand grey
experience from you guys first. They (Tufts Vet Hospital in Grafton,
MA) have only had 4 greyhounds with blood clotting problems in recent
history to compare with. It sounds like it is not a common problem.
thanks very much,

Subject: CHAT: Library display
As a result of my library display back in Feb. at the West Deptford Public
Library, (New Jersey) I am pleased to announce that an 8th grade girl who
did a research paper on greyhounds, racing and adoption, got an A on her
paper! I was working when she was very intently studying my display so I,
of course, had to talk to her. When I found out that she was doing a paper
on this, I lent her my "Celebrating Greyhounds" magazine for her use. She
gratefully returned it to me and advised that she got an A! And best of
all, hopefully there will be a greyhound in her life in the very near
future! So you never know!
