Would anyone like to help move four rescued Italian Greyhounds this
weekend? The people who own them are keeping them as outdoor dogs. The
good news is that they've agreed to give them up to IG Rescue. Sounds like
this will happen this weekend, and we'd like to be ready.
Most of the wee ones' trip is covered, but there's still a 150-mile gap
from Raleigh to Morehead City. Must be interesting terrain cause it
translates to more than 3 hours, according to MapBlast.
Anyone in the Raleigh, Goldsboro, Kinston, or New Bern area who'd like to
help? You can contact Laurie at <Iggiewoman@ec.rr.com> or me at
<ohiogreyhounds@yahoo.com>.
Our thanks in advance,
Kelly Graham (mom to Ivy, the senior Italian terror)

Subject: Re: CHAT: May Is Adopt-A-Senior Month....
May is my favorite month! My new slogan: SOLD ON SENIORS!!!
I plead guilty to Brittany. I even plead some guilt when it comes to
Charming! I told Jordan she'd be staying when I came out of the rest stop
and saw her in the driver's seat! And I plead guilty to Puddles and
Trixie, Muffin and Tina; Nawty (RIP), Tyler, and Shygirl; Abby, Aggie, and
Andy; my man Bones!, Schatze (RIP), Corvette, Carmen, Hitman, Juice,
Goldie; Mary, Molly, and Heather; Missi, my best girl Odessa!, Rascal, and
Raven. While I'm at it, I'll fess up to Dream, Velvet, Pawnee, Sweetpea,
Lighting, Bernadette, Sheba, Rachel, and Frisky. I'm sure I've forgotten
someone!
I went a little crazy this May. I agreed to take FOUR dogs from the Kansas
farms! I try to stick to one or two. When Kate Bressler called and asked
if one of my girls could come early, I said sure. Perhaps if she came
early, I could place her before the others arrived! As luck would have it,
I did! She has a great home with another senior greyhound girl! This
family is SOLD ON SENIORS!!!
Two of my remaining three girls have been spayed. One lost 23 teeth!!!,
the other only three. The third gal is just coming out of heat so I can't
have her spayed till next month (but I'll make someone a May adoption
deal!). Visit my girls at
http://www.geocities.com/ohiogreyhounds/goldenyears.html.
Just received a post about seven more seniors needing homes. One's a 12 yr
old girl...you know where she'll be hanging her hat, right? The other six
are...medium...six to eight years old. Heck, six isn't even a senior!
Anyhow, I hope to help this bunch too. Then there are more oldies on the
Kansas farms, and of course, I can't forget the Iowa seniors!
Does all this have a point? Sure does! There's a never-ending supply of
these wonderful senior dogs. Only in the last few years have farm owners
become aware that their senior dogs--their retired brood bitches and stud
dogs--are ADOPTABLE! As more owners realize this, more seniors need homes.
It takes a special kind of person to adopt an old dog--a person who
acknowledges that whatever time he or she has with that dog will be the
BEST TIME of that dog's life. While all this loving and caring is going on,
these adopters acknowledge a poorly-kept secret: They're having the best
times of their lives as well! Life's short--love a senior today!

Subject: EVENTS: San Diego Renaissance Festival
HUZZAH! The Greyhounds of Fairhaven are coming to San Diego (with their
humans) to participate in the San Diego Renaissance Festival to be held
September 22-23, 2001 at Balboa Park. It is sure to be a greyt event!
In preparation, we are asking all adoption/rescue/support groups that serve
the San Diego area to provide us with up to date contact information (group
name, phone #, email addy & URL) so we may include it in our festival
brochure. Please respond as early as possible so we can get going on the
design.
In addition, if any of you greyt folks have experience doing historical
re-enactment, have your own period costume and can be in San Diego for the
Festival, feel free to contact us about an "audition".
One last thing...we could use the names of some reasonably priced (but
nice), greyhound friendly motels/hotels in the San Diego area. We need to
reserve our accomodations early, so any help would be appreciated.
Please email your response to info@GreyhoundsOfFairhaven.org or
greyhound@marshasmartingales.com.
Thanks for your help...

Concerning the use of fabric softener strips as a mosquito deterrant:
If you read the article at the cyberpet web site you will think twice about
ever using them on anything that could possibly touch you precious greys.
Go to www.cyberpet.com click on
cyberdog, click on articles, and click on fabric softener article.
We have stopped using them completely. The risk (real or imagined)
are not worth it where our two greys are concerned.
Hope this is of some help in saving some greys from potential
problems.

Subject: CHAT, SPECIAL, HELP: The search for Andy
In case anyone thinks that all hope of finding Andy has been lost, I was
asked to update you all on the next phase of the search. It's becoming much
more organized now, due to the combined efforts of a lot of people.
Lee is delivering a large batch of flyers to the Hillsville area tomorrow.
More will be coming Friday. Churches and schools are having flyers faxed to
them. Maps of the area are being gathered. Park rangers are being
contacted (the Blue Ridge Parkway/Skyline Drive is nearby).
Early Friday afternoon John is taking the Big Dawg (our bus) to Hillsville
and will be parking it in the area where Andy was lost. Unless Andy is
found sooner, it will be there until Sunday evening. It will be used as
sort of a communications center, resting spot, and lodging for some of the
people coming from out of the area who are able to stay overnight. People
are coming from several states on Saturday and/or Sunday to join in the
search and help the effort to get information about Andy out to as many
local residents as possible. But MORE HELP IS NEEDED, especially on
Saturday. If there's any way you can possibly help, even for a few hours,
please email Sherry at SherryC@ioa.com and let her know so she can tell you
where to meet.
The local media has become very interested in the fact that people would
come from several states to look for one lost dog. This is a good thing!
Not only will it help get the word out about Andy, it may drum up some
interest in adoption, too. I hope whoever talks to the media will emphasize
the fact that everyone involved shares the common thread of our love for
Greyhounds. Andy's search has, at least for the time being, torn down the
barriers between some of us. If Andy is to be found, that's the only way it
will happen. It has nothing to do with anti vs. racing or group vs. group
or
criticism of any kind. It has only to do with finding Andy.

Subject: CHAT: Slobs!
Surely we are not the only ones out there with a grey who makes a
complete mess of the kitchen every time he takes a drink? When Gregory
drinks, he splashes the wall, the trash can, and leaves a puddle on the
floor. I get to tired of mopping it up! Has anyone found any good
solutions to this? In a catalog I've seen a "Buddy Bowl" which claims
not to spill even if it's tipped over. That's not our problem, but this
bowl looks like it might be helpful to keep the splashing down, but hard
to tell just from the picture. Has anyone tried one? They run around
$15.00 so I don't want to buy one and find out it's useless! Thanks for
any help.

Hi
A friend asked me to post for her. She has a grey waiting for adoption, that
is having trouble with his toenails. They are soft, bleeding, and falling
off. He was in a home and the owners gave him up.
She would be most greytful for any info on Pemphingus, or any other causes.
She said to e mail her privately at : greysave@msn.com Her name is Joyce.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

A Asperin a day keeps the doctor away. So my grandma always said and live to
the
ripe age of 94.
Asperin thins the blood which allows for better circulation, which should
help
prevent blood clots.

These dogs are located in southern Wisconsin. Ken forgot to mention that we
can fit 5 GH's in our Explorer. We will GUR these dogs within a reasonable
distance of Chicago. Also, I'm working in Tijuana, so if someone wants them
out west, I'll bring you one per week for the next five weeks (weather and
United Airlines permitting). Only half-kidding!

Sigh...
It rained all day today here. I still left the door open so the dogs could
go out if they had to while I was at work. Of course, when I came home,
there were paw prints all over the kitchen floor. I got out the mop, wet it,
and pushed it
around the kitchen, cleaning up the prints. Little did I know that my
"shadow", Allan, was quietly following behind me, making new tracks wherever
I had just mopped. By the time I came around to where I had started, the
floor looked the same
as it had. After I stopped laughing, I remopped the floor, this time making
sure Allan's feet were dry and the mop wasn't as damp, or this could have
gone on all night.
Ya gotta love these hounds. ;-)
