I found her photos on the BC rescue page at
http://cbcr.org/available.htm
She's about halfway down.

Ohmigawd, she's **beautiful**!!! I have a thing for BC/sighthound lurchers,
and this dog is drop dead gorgeous. She's **blue**!!! With long white
socks and tuxedo markings, and just a few touches of tan on her
face and legs. If I could find a way to do it without having to push a
greyhound out the door to make it legal with the city ordinances, she'd be
living here....

Kathy,
everytime I read about a situation like this I get very angry. Not at you,
but the BS about these ILLEGAL ordinances.

You should be able to get that dog if you want her.

I and many others successfully fought such an ordinance several years ago
introduced here in Duval Co. and then just a couple years back.

Any ordinance CANNOT specify a NUMBER. ie; 4 or 5 of anything.

Ordinances can only be legally based on nuisance/zoning etc. But it is
discriminatory and illegal to say you can only have 2 or 7 or anything. They
can get around it if they want with wording, but they better show good
cause. You and others in the dog and pet community can fight it.

The Animal Defense League may have a referral or help. We have here in
Florida the Florida Dog Owners Asociation.

But we fought it off 2xs on our own.

My dad was a city councilman from Seminole County, and he told me that when
we started the first fight here.
I wish he had lived to see us win. He also showed and bred Dobermans, and
was the President and Director of the Seminole County Humane Society at the
time. Talk about a house full of dogs!! He had his dogs, rescue dogs,
boarding dogs, etc. His wife was into the dogs too, and helped. He lived in
a neighborhood with next door neighbors. He never had a problem that I know
of. Of course being friends with the Mayor didn't hurt I'm sure :-))

Seriously though, I get so frustrated at all these ordinances thru out, that
are implimented by people who don't know a darn thing about keeping animals,
and rescue, and the DAMAGE it can do to limit the numbers, in a hasty method
to rid all the problems of a city of their animal complaints. Gee, if you
don't have the animals to begin with, then you don't have the problems,
right?? Wrong.

Off the soapbox now........ Next??
Take care, and may all the animal limits be struck from all the books
everywhere.

I'd like to try this again this year...

In July, the Gang's auction will feature greyhound T-shirts from all over
the country.
If you would like to contribute to this auction, please send a T-shirt NOW
to:

Greyhound Gang
PO Box 274
Kanab, UT 84741

You'll have a link from our site when your t-shirt is up for auction.
One hundred percent (100%) of all proceeds will benefit more greyhounds in
need.

I'm happy to exchange a Gang T-shirt for any other group's t-shirt for the
auction too, if you send a note as to what benefit you need items for to
help greyhounds.

Thanks.
We will change the greyhound world.

Subject: HELP: lost dog in Needles, CA

We've got a problem. A black male dog, Morgan, is lost in Needles,
CA. He was traveling with his family in their motorhome, and he got
out. God, it's so hot there, and he's a black dog. The family has
contacted the local Animal Control, and they're starting to search,
but if there is anyone who can help, call Mary at 1-602-284-7069.
That's their cell phone. Or call AGR at 1-520-886-7411.

I use RioVista brand "Pet So Soft". It's an herbal insect repellent. It
doesn't last long, but plenty enough time for a long walk or evening out.
It works on gnats, mosquitos, horseflies, and bees (the kids HATE horseflies
and bees).

Hello List,

A friend's 12 year old grey has just been diagnosed with laryngeal
paralysis, and she would like advice from anyone who has had a similar
problem with their greyhound. Surgery has been advised apparently, although
I don't know what that would entail (other than going out of state for it).
Please direct responses to me and I will forward them on to her. Many thanks
in advance.

OK, these are not my greyhounds, but they are greyhounds that need some help
finding good homes.

CDog, non-cat-safe black female 3 yrs old (The racing owner has paid her
$90/month board bill since October, but so fare no adoption group has taken
her. There's nothing wrong with her except that she's black and doesn't like
cats. The next time some anti racing person tries to tell you that we
racing types only care about the money and don't care about the greyhounds,
or that we "discard them" when they no longer "make a profit", just think
about this racing owner's $720.)

Also available are:

Jumper, cat-safe fawn male 3 yrs old
Dan, cat-safe black male 3.5 years old
Surfrider, cat-safe black male 3 yrs old
Blue, black male 2.5 years old (cat status unknown)

If you can help get these five fine greyhounds home please email me
privately. They are not my racers, but they are good dogs that need a home.

>I noticed something strange today, and am now worried.
>She is having trouble regulating her body temps.

My old girl Ace (13) also has trouble with this. First of
all, make sure she's getting plenty of water (sorry, this is
becoming my mantra!). If I want to make sure Ace is drinking
enough I'll give her a little bowl of water with just a little
juice or gatorade added and she thinks it's a treat.

And what I do in the summer is keep the a/c on but not at a
really chilly temp, and put an oscillating fan on the floor
pointed at a spot she likes to hang out. Both dogs LOVE
that fan :-) So cute. Ace can hang out in front of the
fan if she's warm, and find another spot if she cools off
because they have plenty of beds & blankets around.
Sometimes if she's really warm she'll fall asleep upside
down over an a/c vent. Whatever works :-) She gets a
lot of slack for being so old & pretty.

Subject: The Memorial Day Broods & Two Boys

We've increased the haul numbers--we even ahve a canine hitch-hiker--and
with
only two left to be assigned to a group, 31 hounds are coming north on
Memorial Day from Florida.

Just wanted to let everyone know that the cooperation on all fronts has been
just plain fine, and that we're pulling the final details together.

And one more thing: to everyone who has ever gotten dogs off a haul from far
distances and wondered what it takes: it's a bear. And--like most life
experiences--I appreciate what it takes to do these long hauls now much more
than I ever did. In many ways, happily, it was easier than I thought it
would
be.

Thank God there are plenty of Haul Warriors out there (having nothing to do
with the Business--but having everything to do with the DETAILS: phone
calls,
emails, contacts, questions, to-ing and fro-ing; and, um, a little whining)
who have laid a well-trod path to follow.

This is a very exciting cross-political venture which I hope you will all
bless with prayer, white light and good thoughts for all the hounds
traveling
from the 25th-26th next week. Even though the haul is air conditioned, we
just want a nice, smooth, uneventful trip for these hounds....

Thanks everyone. I'm sure there'll be tales to tell.

This reminds me of the time I came home to discover my husband on his
knees, swearing as he cleaned up poop smears from the carpet. "Rufus
stepped in poop," he told me. "OK, where is he?" I asked.

Blank look.

Of course, Rufus had wandered all over the house by that time, smearing
poop from between his pads wherever he went. I swear, the little monsters
could carry my entire wardrobe in that space between their pads if they
were so inclined. I spent 20 minutes cleaning poop out of his paws.

Subject: HELP: Search for Morgan

I haven't seen my first message about Morgan, the lost dog in
Needles, but hopefully it will have been posted by the time this one
appears. It is developing into an "Andy" type situation. The owners
have to leave Needles, coming to Tucson for a medical emergency.
(They were traveling here when Morgan got out.) So, as of Friday,
there will be no one in town actively looking for this dog, other
than the local Animal Control.

We can't wait on this one. The environment alone will kill Morgan.
It's 100 degrees there now during the day. Unfortunately, Needles is
in the middle of nowhere, 350 miles from Tucson, 250 miles from
Phoenix, 250 miles from LA, 100+ miles from Las Vegas, 300+ miles
from San Diego. But if anyone from these areas (or any others) can
help search, please email me. If I don't hear anything soon, I'm
going out there myself, and I'd love help. It will take me seven
hours, just to get to the town. Needles is a small town, surrounded
by inhospitable desert. I'm hoping Morgan stays in town, and is
spotted by someone. He has his AGR tags on.

Sherry, or anyone involved in organizing Andy's search, can you
please email me and tell me all that you're doing, so I can do
everything I can here.

Subject: Chat: Fastback turns 13 :-)

Tomorrow, Saturday May 19th our sweet boy Fastback turns 13!! In two weeks
we will have had him 6 months and what a joyous time it has been. Hard to
believe his previous owners of 8 years were taking him to the pound if our
group didn't take him in....their loss, our gain.

Fastback has helped heal our broken hearts after losing our heart dog, Sabre
two weeks before Fastback came into our lives. Fasty as I like to call him
is a toy boy, plays more than our younger greys (8 & 9) and absolutely has
to have a toy in his mouth to parade with when you get home. Another plug
for those seniors, they are just such a joy.

Happy birthday my sweet boy and hope to have many more with you!
